Introduction

This blog will be about American English so please, if all those who speak British English, Australian English, or any other English could show some understanding that American English might sound slightly different. I would appreciate it if you could add comments and share your knowledge as well.

My dear friend gave me the idea about this blog. I have lived in the States since 1992 and she lives in Poland. First we wrote regular letters and since emails have become popular we have been emailing each other almost every day. It's great! Some of my friendships have not survived long distance relations because it is challenging in many ways, so I value the friendship with her more than anything.  She is my best friend.

Anyway, a while ago she asked me if I could email her everyday ten English words, as she would like to improve her language skills. She speaks French very well and knows English at a medium-advanced level. I thought that words have so much meaning and it might be boring thus I decided to email her sentences instead. Some sentences are about daily things we all talk about and some are about my work.

I am going to make it very simple. Every day I will post one or two sentences and you can write your translation in comments. As soon as my friend emails me a Polish translation I am going to post it as well plus some of my own comments explaining meaning and usage of some vocabulary.

Let’s see how it works and if anyone finds is useful.

Cheers, Halina

  1. Great post.Learning different languages is hard but fun.We were able to grasps the culture of every languages we translate.A lost in Polish translation or any translation should not hinder us to know exactly about one's history and culture.Especially in the ever faster moving world of globalized business, successful information and technology transfer within multinational businesses can make the difference between win or lose
